I’ve been quieter on the internet recently, but if you want to read about what I’m making at NYU, all my coursework is open source: edu.lachlanjc.com

Such a milestone seeing the @watershed branding I made with @meghantosh this summer all over NYC this month 💙

This has become without a doubt the best way to collaborate on marketing sites. Comments on the live page elements means you’re discussing performance, a11y, responsive design, plus unlike Slack the threads never get lost before shipping. Brilliant execution from @vercel here! @cramforce/1572997696163811329

Tyyy for the ice cream @figma friends!!

I so look forward to reading these iOS reviews every year, & getting to play a small part in editing this was a privilege. Go find out all the new things your iPhone can do! @viticci/1569348173629464576

I find it increasingly difficult to square Cloudflare’s boundary-pushing web infrastructure work I’m deeply excited about with simultaneously making indefensible moderation decisions for one product with no reasonable financial/ethical/PR grounding. @seldo/1566436444817612800

Do I always feel like whichever city I’m in is the most exciting/compelling place I could be? Yes. Is NYC the most exciting place I could be? Obviously

Can’t believe I’m actually moving back to NYC next weekend!! So glad I’ve taken the last 2 years away from college though. After growing fixated on it since middle school, living & working in San Francisco I found absurdly gratifying & joyous.

Today’s my last day at @watershed, after 17 joy-filled months, pouring my heart into brand design, product dev, web frontend, marketing, & more. It’s an unparalleled company I couldn’t have been happier at: high agency & speed, true caring, carbon impact. Next stop: back to NYU!

When a devtools startup doesn’t have a @rauchg testimonial on the homepage 🚩🚩

For Earth Day, we shipped a “Spotify Wrapped for your climate program” for @watershed customers to celebrate their progress. I wrote about the process of designing/building it over 4 days: watershed.com/eng/creating-a-shareable-earth-day-campaign-in-1-week

While “developers Google everything” rhetoric is empowering, working with tools I know increasingly well, I’m more likely to: - Pull up dependencies’ docs (daily) - Search my previous projects on GitHub for solutions (weekly) - Look at the source of relevant libraries (monthly)
-
Around Earth Day, many @watershed customers release environmental progress reports. Collected some on watershed.com/customers today, using the @sanity_io color palette API, CSS custom properties & scroll snap points.

The @browsercompany automatically dismissing non-pinned tabs overnight feels like a free cleaning service for my most-used workspace

Flexbox/grid
gap
is one of the best improvements to CSS in awhile. It always works as expected, unlike margin collapses, even with conditional children. I’m now using padding + gap for almost all layout, with margin just for block typography. -
While I’m excited for the invasive screenings to improve, I wish I could get excited for non-binary ID/passports. I’d love to have my gender reflected on my ID but it’s not worth the risk of harassment/having my gender be a part of interacting with security/immigration officers. @IBJIYONGI/1509507776573480961

Debriefed on the #AppleEvent with the @macstoriesnet crew! Discussed how chip performance has diverged from faster software, the iPad lineup, why I’m excited for Studio Display, & Q&A: @ClubMacStories/1501418535012110342

What’s so exciting on the web is the ceiling keeps being raised with new web standards, browser features, & visitor expectations, but the floor keeps being lowered by amazing tutorials/courses like @JoshWComeau’s & tools like @vercel/@glitch/@Replit @seldo/1501031771890012165

Only a few tech companies are leveraging/handling well the influencer-ification of their employees so far—@vercel & @linear especially—but it’ll become an increasingly critical factor in startup offers @sarahfrier/1499130108392534016

Can’t believe it’s already been/only been 1 year @watershed!! Remembering this hike + pancake breakfast with some coworkers at Mt. Tam last fall 🥞

How do code editors still not have spell check on strings…it’s not exactly cutting-edge tech

I love how Apple Fitness+ makes me a better version of myself. I use it nearly every day & I wouldn’t blink if they raised the price 5x or more
